(Note: this isn’t a “political” post in the usual sense of the word, or for or against either candidate – it’s more of a wondering-out-loud about what the real purpose of debates are in the election)
Maybe it’s just me, but I was thinking about it, and I don’t exactly get who is being targeted with the Presidential Debates. They always talk about the Undecided voters…
Really?
I just don’t get it – I can’t imagine being this far into it and knowing even a fraction of what’s been put out there and still being undecided. Not to say I don’t think there are ANY who haven’t made up their minds, but I just can’t come up with a scenario that makes much sense where there would be more than a miniscule fraction of all voters.
Which, to me, begs the question, what is the PURPOSE of the debates then? I feel like all that has come out of it from my admittedly localized point of view, is that each side has claimed clear victory for the candidate, and is using all the sound bites and creating memes, conspiracy theories, and other “gotchas” from them. To share on social media and convince absolutely NO ONE, and to garner multiple Likes from all of their friends who they already know lean the same direction as they do.
So, what’s the point? For the most part, it’s been shown that a vast majority of people hear and see what they want to, and what reaffirms the beliefs they already hold dear. So aren’t the debates just a big press release of sorts and internet fodder for each side to display with a pleased, “See?!” I just wonder who these Undecided voters are, and what in sam hill is wrong with them?!
